About Me

It’s always fun getting to know a new teacher, and your children will get to know me quite well throughout the year.  I thought this might be a good opportunity to introduce myself to you.

I was born in Houston, TX and moved to Colorado when I was ten.  I graduated from Woodland Park High School in 1981.  My mother was a teacher, and I decided to follow her lead.  I received my Elementary Education degree, with a minor in Special Education, from Western State College (now Western State Colorado University) in December 1985.  My student teaching experience was in Steamboat Springs with a wonderful group of 4th graders.

I spent my first year teaching in a one-room schoolhouse with seven students in 1st -6th grades, in northwest Colorado.  I married my husband, J, in 1987 and began teaching 1st grade in Craig.  We moved to Walden a year later where I spent 4 years as a substitute teacher and a JTPA coordinator working with at-risk middle and high school students.  We moved to the Littleton area where I taught in a private Kindergarten.  In 1996, we returned to Walden, and I continued to substitute teach and work in a variety of part-time educational positions until I was hired on as a Special Education Teacher.  In 2004, we moved to Gunnison, and I was hired as a Kindergarten teacher.  The following year, I moved into the 4th grade where I remained – until 2010 when I was given the chance to loop with my class into 5th grade.  I have thoroughly enjoyed all my experiences, and I happily remain right here!

I have three daughters. Megan graduated from GHS in 2008 and Delta Technical College in 2010. She is now married and living here in Gunnison with her husband and two daughters.  Kirsten graduated from GHS in 2009 and WSCU in May  2014.  She attended the Denver Publishing Institute at the University of Denver in 2015, and now enjoys her new job as a market specialist in the publishing world.  Hannah graduated from GHS 2013 and from Eastern New Mexico University in 2018.  She currently is working within the equine industry.  I’m sure you will hear more about my family, pets, and adventures throughout the year.

I look forward to getting to know your children.  Thank you so much for sharing them with me! I feel very privileged to work with such great children and their families.
